It's Okay If You Couldn't Write Today...
...for that matter, don't worry if you can't concentrate on Tuesday, either.
There’s not much more to say at this point. If you can vote, you’ve either voted early or you’re getting ready to vote on Election Day, and from that point forward all we can do is wait—and we’re probably not going to have any firm answers by the end of this day, either. I remember what it was like in 2000, staying up until 3:00 a.m. New York time, trying to figure out what the heck was going on in Florida, and then the month of wrangling over the outcome. (Though not enough wrangling on somebody’s part, if you ask me, but I guess nobody did.)
If you can’t concentrate on your writing, that’s probably because what’s happening right now is really important to you—and who knows, maybe that will come out in your writing somehow, someday. For now, you can sit with your feelings; perhaps you can consider them as if you were writing about them, and that might get you somewhere, either in terms of getting some writing done or dealing with your feelings. If you don’t feel like you’re succeeding on either front, don’t worry about it. We’ll check in again soon, and see where we’re all at.
